Funding
The Portfolio for Global Development and International Relations is funded by nearly all ministries, but mainly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Health and Care Services. The ministries commission research to underpin their different sector responsibilities, and instructions are given to the Research Council regarding the knowledge needs of the ministries in annual allocation letters. The funding for research on foreign- and security policy-related issues has remained stable as regards thematic priorities across different governments. With regard to development research, however, the thematic priorities tend to vary according to the political composition of the government. This portfolio will, in close cooperation with other relevant portfolios, seek to strike a sound balance between continuity and renewal.
