How we process applications
The details of how we process your application can be found in the call for proposals you have applied for. However, there are some common features in how we process the vast majority of applications we receive. These are the most important steps in how we typically process applications with external assessment.

From application to funding decision

We receive your application
As soon as we receive your application, we will check whether it satisfies all the requirements in the call. If it does not, it will unfortunately be rejected, but you can apply again later.
1
Writing and submitting an application
You always create an application via the call for proposals. As soon as the application has been submitted, you will receive confirmation by email and on the logged in area.
2
We receive your application
As soon as we receive your application, we will check whether it satisfies all the requirements in the call. If it does not, it will unfortunately be rejected, but you can apply again later.
3
External referees assess the application
Most applications are assessed by a panel of referees commissioned by the Research Council of Norway.
4
We make a recommendation for further processing
The recommendation is based on professional assessment, requirements and guidelines. The priorities are stated in the call for proposals you have applied for.
5
Decisions made by the portfolio boards
The portfolio board then usually decides whether or not an application will be granted funding. The call for proposals states what they should prioritise.
6
We will inform you about the result
You will receive feedback about the result on the logged in page. All applicants will receive a reason for the decision. We also post which projects receive support on our website.
