The Arctic region is vulnerable and at the same time an area of increasing economic interest and a critical component of the global climate system. Melting sea ice combined with technological advances opens the area for shipping routes, resource extraction and other human activities. Despite this, the Arctic remains one of the least observed and understood environments on earth. In this event at the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona we discuss what is the status, what are the challenges, and what are the ways forward?
The Norwegian Polar Institute and The Research Council of Norway will arrange The fifth Antarctic Seminar. The seminar will not be streamed, participants meet at the FRAM Centre in Tromsø.
