Purpose

This is a so-called registration call for departments that have been awarded salary and operating funds for doctoral research fellows from the STIPINST scheme. The call for proposals enables the Research Council to register doctoral students that the departments enroll on the basis of a letter of commitment.

About the call for proposals

In order to make better use of the institute sector's expertise and supervisory capacity in doctoral education, the Ministry of Education and Research decided in 2015 to allocate special salary funds to doctoral students in the institute sector. The doctoral degrees must be in mathematical, natural and technical (MNT) subjects. The funds are allocated approximately every three years through the Research Council, which has decided that it will go to institutes covered by the Guidelines for central government basic funding (in Norwegian) with significant MNT activity.  

The conditions for the award can be found in the letter of commitment received by the relevant institutes. 

The call is available in Norwegian and English. The Norwegian call for proposals is legally binding.

Who is eligible to apply?

This registration call only applies to research institutes that have received a letter of commitment of funding from the STIPINST scheme for doctoral students starting in 2026. These institutes must use the call for proposals to register the doctoral projects for which they have been granted funding. Who can participate in the project?

Requirements relating to the Project Owner 

The research institute listed as the Project Owner in the Research Council's application form must be on the list linked above.

What can you seek funding for?

The commitment will be used to finance salary and operating funds for doctoral students. 

You must register one doctoral student for each application you submit through this registration call. See the letter of commitment with attachments for more information on the amount per doctoral student and details on what information must be included in the registration form.

Please note that you can only submit the registration application once. If you submit a registration application and subsequently see that it needs to be changed, you must create a new form and thus submit a new version. 

  • The form and all attachments must be written in Norwegian or English. 
  • All attachments must be in PDF format.
