Evaluation of the Nansen Legacy project

The Research Council of Norway has completed the midway evaluation of the Nansen Legacy project.

The Nansen Legacy is a project of national strategic importance. The project encompasses a wide thematic and organisational scope with many participants and institutions involved. The knowledge that is generated will be very important for the management of theBarents Sea and adjacent Arctic Basin.

The purpose of the evaluation was to assess if the Nansen Legacy project is on its way to reach its objectives, the quality of the research and collaboration, the relevance for users of the project so far, and to propose recommendations on how to further develop the plans for activities in second phase of the project. The national importance and extensive scope of the project are the main reasons for conducting a midway evaluation.

The evaluation was initiated in February 2021 and the final report was delivered in November 2021.

The evaluation committee comprised the following members:

  • Dr. Marin Fortier (chair), Sentinel North, Université Laval, Canada
  • Prof. Ulrich Bathmann, Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW), Germany
  • Dr. Didier Hauglustaine, the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences, France
  • Toril Inga Røe Utvik, Manager Northern Area Unit, Equinor, Norway
  • Dr. Marie-Noelle Houssais, Sorbonne University, France
  • Dr. Catherine Lalande (assistant), Université Laval, Canada
