M-ERA.NET - Call2026 - ERA-NET for research and innovation on materials

The Research Council announces up to 2.4 million euros for Norwegian researchers and businesses who want to participate in international research collaboration in materials research.

M-ERA.NET aims to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) on advanced materials. With annual joint calls M-ERA.NET funds ground-breaking research, facilitates knowledge exchange, promotes sustainable solutions in the field of materials science, and fosters transnational collaboration among researchers, academia, industry and other stakeholders. The Research Council participates in the call across all six thematic areas (listed below), and for all of these, participation from Norwegian industry is strongly encouraged.

  • The Pre-Proposal Deadline is 12 May 2026, 12:00 noon, CEST. 
  • The Full-Proposal Deadline is 18 November 2026, 12:00 noon, CET 

Norwegian proposers can participate in all the thematic areas 

  • Materials for energy storage and distribution systems  
  • Materials for energy conversion  
  • Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces  
  • Innovative functional materials with defined architectures  
  • Materials addressing environmental challenges  
  • Next generation materials for electronics 

Proposals under the themes Materials for energy storage and distribution systems and Materials for energy conversion is limited to renewables and associated energy storage, energy efficiency and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

State Aid Rules (for activities by undertakings) 

The funded activities must fall under one of the following categories, as defined by EU state aid regulations: 

  • Industrial Research, or
  • Experimental Development.

The aid must comply with the EU Block Exemption Regulation (Commission Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014),  Article 25.

  • Funding may only be used in accordance with these rules.
  • Entities classified as an "undertaking in difficulty" under state aid regulations are not eligible for support.

Eligible Funding Level

  • In this call, undertakings may apply for up to 50 percent funding of eligible project costs.

General Conditions

  • Participation must follow RCN’s General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects.
