Svalbard Strategic Grant allocations

The Research Council of Norway has allocated funding to four workshops and two projects through Svalbard Science Forum's funding program Svalbard Strategic Grant (SSG).

The call in October 2018 had up to NOK 4 million available for workshops and projects that promote the strategic objectives of the Svalbard Science Forum (SSF). In total NOK  2,6 million will be allocated from this call.

The SSF received a total of eight applications. All applications were evaluated by a panel composed of in-house staff and external experts with experience from Svalbard. The applications were evaluated based on the criteria and priorities in the call. The final funding decision has been made by the administration in the Research Council of Norway (RCN). The projects with the highest grades were funded.

Priority in this call was given to workshops or projects that contribute to the SSF strategic objectives:

  • cooperation, coordination, sharing of data and reduced environmental impact
  • the continuation of developing existing, or establish new, scientific cooperation projects
  • follow up the recommendations outlined in reports from previous SSF funded workshops
  • increase mobility and cooperation between research localities in Svalbard
