NOK 2.3 million to workshops and collaborative activities in Svalbard research

The Research Council of Norway has allocated funding to seven workshops and two projects through Svalbard Science Forum's funding program Svalbard Strategic Grant (SSG).

The call in November 2016 had up to NOK 3.0 million for workshops and projects that promote the strategic objectives of Svalbard Science Forum (SSF), including coordination and collaborative efforts in research activities in Svalbard.

The SSF received a total of 21 applications. Applications were processed administratively by a panel composed of in-house staff and external experts with experience from Svalbard. The final funding decision has been made by the administration in the Research Council of Norway (RCN).

Priority in this call will be given to projects that (non-prioritized order):

  • Continue to develop the existing four Ny-Ålesund flagship programs.
  • Develop existing and establish new SSF cooperation initiatives for scientific cooperation in Svalbard.
  • Follow up the recommendations outlined in reports from previous SSF Workshops (organized by SSF or by researchers with SSF strategic funding support).
  • Increase mobility between the research bases.
  • Develop observation systems/platforms for SIOS.

Applications not listed below have not been funded. All applicants will receive a letter from the RCN informing them about the decision. We kindly ask all applicants to refrain from contacting the RCN until they have received the letters of notification.

The deadline for the next annual call for proposals to Svalbard Strategic Grant will be in November 2017.
