Hearing regarding impact assessment programs for tourism cabins in Svalbard

The Governor of Svalbard has issued a hearing regarding impact assessment programs for tourism cabins in Svalbard.

The information is only issued in Norwegian, but you can find it here:

Svalbard Science Forum will give a hearing statement that the impact on research activities must be included in the assessment program. Impacts that should be considered are:

• Projects nearby (information taken from fieldwork sites registered in RiS)
• Tourism travel to/ from these cabins
• Total volume of traffic in the surrounding area
• The buildings and cabin site

As the Governor and the tourism operators that have applied for cabins might use the RiS database to be able to see what research is ongoing in the various areas, we would like to recommend everyone that has projects that are not registered in RiS to do so as quickly as possible.

If your project is afflicted by the proposed tourism cabins or if you have other input, please give your own hearing statement to the Governor's Office by e-mail: before 27.2.2017.
