Call for proposals for Arctic Field Grant 2017

The call for proposals for Arctic Field Grant (AFG) 2017 is now published. The deadline for next year’s field season is 1 PM (GMT+1) on 12 October 2016. The call will be activated 6 weeks before the deadline.

This year NOK 2,5 million will be allocated for extra costs related to fieldwork in Svalbard. The maximum is amount is NOK 80.000 pr. application (100.000 for Jan Mayen). NOK 0,5 million of the funds are allocated to projects with international cooperation with the research bases (Hornsund, Ny-Ålesund and Barentsburg).

The grants are intended for students (master’s and doctoral degree) and researchers who are studying or employed at, or collaborating with, a Norwegian. Candidates from non-Norwegian institutions are eligible if the work is done in direct collaboration with a Norwegian scientific institution. Students (master and PhD) as well as researchers who are not established in Svalbard will be prioritized.

For the 2012 call the average AFG recipient was a female master student from a Norwegian institution who received NOK 42.250 for biological research in Ny-Ålesund.
