Joint Norwegian-Brazilian call for proposals

PETROMAKS 2 and Finep launches a call for Knowledge-Building Projects for Industry, with deadline on the 12th of September 2018. Up to NOK 20 million is available for the Norwegian applicants, and a corresponding amount will be made available by Finep for Brazilian applicants.

The Research Council of Norway (RCN) is very pleased to announce that an approval of the second joint call with Finep has been made in both countries. This second bilateral call is, like the first one, focused on the offshore oil and gas industry, and the research programme PETROMAKS 2 will represent the RCN.

- It is very positive that these organisations can apply for targeted funding to realize bilateral projects, says Siri H. Friedemann. (Photo: Thomas Keilman) Brazil is one of eight priority countries outside of the EU/EEU, as well as one of the countries addressed in the Government's Panorama strategy. This joint call is in line with the RCN strategy for international cooperation, and the ambition is to stimulate Norwegian research organisations to increase their collaboration with Brazil. This is a country that shares many of Norway's technological challenges and competence needs with regards to the offshore petroleum industry.

– Over the last few years, Norwegian and Brazilian research organisations have exchanged knowledge and ideas during the annual November conference arranged in Rio de Janeiro. It is very positive that these organisations can apply for targeted funding to realize bilateral projects. The fact that Industry in both countries must to contribute with financing will help to ensure that project results will be implemented in Brazil and Norway, says Director Siri H. Friedemann, The Research Council of Norway.

How to apply
The call text on the RCN webpage is here, and it will be possible to submit proposals six weeks ahead of the deadline on the 12th of September. Applications will have to be submitted in both Norway and Brazil, so the applicants in both countries will need to coordinate their proposals. Norwegian and Brazilian industry must contribute with cash financing. The agreement document between the RCN and Finep which describes the framework for the call, will be available in the call text.

In Norway, the applicants will submit their proposals according to the demands and stipulations given by the RCN (PETROMAKS 2) and the agreement document. The Brazilian research partners will submit corresponding proposals to Finep in Brazil, according to Finep's stipulations. If a proposal is submitted only in one country, it will be rejected. The stipulations and evaluation procedures will be slightly different in Norway and Brazil. Therefore, the proposals will not be identical in both countries.

PETROMAKS 2 will support the Norwegian part of the collaborative projects. In the Norwegian proposals, the focus should be on describing the activities in Norway. However, it will be necessary to also indicate what the Brazilian partners will perform, and what the added value of having a bilateral cooperation will be.

Potential applicants are encouraged to contact the administration to discuss how their project ideas fit the overall intention of the joint call.
