Grant application processing

Grants will be awarded via a national competitive arena and an application-based funding system to ensure an adequate interface between the funding of research infrastructure and other research funding, as well as a cohesive assessment of the balance between national investment and participation in international research infrastructures.

Grant applications will be assessed by one or more advisory committees comprised of representatives of relevant programme boards at the Research Council and/or international referees either independently or as a panel. The makeup of the advisory committees will be determined in relation to the priority areas set out in the individual calls for proposals and the scientific profile of the applications received.
The Research Council administration will review the assessments submitted by the advisory committees and will incorporate these into an overall recommendation. The final decisions regarding allocations will be taken by the Council’s governing bodies.
