Global health - research for improved implementation

3rd Conference on Global Health and Vaccination Research.
Bergen, 30-31 October 2008 Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, Bergen

The huge global health problems among poor populations have resulted in a number of global health initiatives. In addition to supporting several of these initiatives, the Norwegian government funds global health research and capacity building in the south through the GLOBVAC and NUFU programmes at the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU), respectively.

Norwegian and international key-note speakers will address the following questions:

  • What is the relevance of the research investments in global health?
  • What are the challenges of implementing health interventions, and how can research contribute to improved implementation?
  • What is the future of the HIV and tuberculosis pandemics, and how can research contribute to better prevention, treatment and care?
  • What are the experiences from partnerships in global health research? Discussion around the role of Norwegian institutions, the role of research in health policy development, and examples of successful capacity building in the south
