Føringer og viktige forhold for alle søknadstyper i utlysningen:

This call consists of project establishment support for developing research proposals for the upcoming call on vaccination research with application deadline September 3rd 2008. Joint Norwegian-Indian projects will be part of that call. Submission of a project proposal for that call is a requirement for getting project establishment support.

The proposals should contribute towards the overall aims of the GLOBVAC programme as outlined above, and should be within the thematic areas of the programme as detailed below.

Thematic guidelines:

The proposal must be within the field of global vaccination research, which is here defined as research aiming at developing and providing existing and improved vaccines for marginalized populations, especially children, in low- and middle-income countries. This includes epidemiological studies, the development and evaluation of new or improved vaccines, implementation of vaccination strategies, and studies to measure the costs and outcomes of such strategies.

This call will encourage, but is not restricted to, proposals focusing on:

  • diseases and health problems that account for a large proportion of the global disease burden
  • diseases and health problems that are neglected
  • thematic areas where Norway is strongly involved in health programmes and research
  • thematic areas where Norway has the capacity and competence to be in the international forefront

This includes studies on:

  • development of diagnostic tools, and identification of the need for vaccination programmes based on epidemiological studies
  • development of new candidate vaccines and identification of optimal formulations and immunization regimens for new and existing vaccines
  • development of methods to assess vaccine-induced protection (immune correlates), toxicity and side-effects
  • determination of impact of vaccination, including protective efficacy and effectiveness for relevant outcome parameters and the development of national surveillance systems
  • increasing the availability and ensuring equitable coverage of existing vaccines
  • stimulation of technology transfer to low- and middle-income countries, including improved strategies for cost-effective production of vaccines and the development of trial sites

General guidelines and evaluation:

  • The application form and project description (a maximum of 10 pages, font Times New Roman 12 point, footnotes and references included) must be written in English
  • The GLOBVAC programme board will evaluate and ultimately decide, and at its discretion, which projects will receive funding and the amount for the allocations
