This call is for organizing conferences/workshops/seminars in Norway within the overall thematic areas of the GLOBVAC programme.

Thematic guidelines:

The proposal must be within the field of global health and vaccination research. Global health research is here defined as research related to poverty-related diseases, in particular infectious diseases, and health problems in low- and middle-income countries. Global vaccination research is here defined as research aiming at providing existing and improved vaccines for marginalized populations, especially children, in low- and middle-income countries. Further, the proposal must be within the overall aims of the GLOBVAC programme as stated above.

Proposals are encouraged within the priority research areas of the programme, which are:

  • diseases and health problems that account for a large proportion of the global disease burden
  • diseases and health problems that are neglected
  • thematic areas where Norway is strongly involved in health programmes and research
  • thematic areas where Norway has the capacity and competence to be in the international forefront

Specific priority areas of the programme are:

  • development and evaluation of new methods for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care
  • more efficient and equitable use of existing methods for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care
  • improved equity in health through research on interventions that address structural and individual determinants of poor health
  • improved quality, accessibility and affordability of health care through health policy and systems research
  • development of diagnostic tools, and identification of the need for vaccination programmes based on epidemiological studies
  • development of new candidate vaccines and identification of optimal formulations and immunization regimens for new and existing vaccines
  • development of methods to assess vaccine-induced protection (immune correlates), toxicity and side-effects
  • determination of impact of vaccination, including protective efficacy and effectiveness for relevant outcome parameters and the development of national surveillance systems
  • increasing the availability and ensuring equitable coverage of existing vaccines
  • stimulation of technology transfer to low- and middle-income countries, including improved strategies for cost-effective production of vaccines and the development of trial sites

General guidelines:

Support will be given to Norwegian research institutions to cover expences associated with arranging national or international conferences/workshops/seminars in Norway within the field of global health and vaccination research. Normally, allocations from this programme will not exceed 200 000 NOK per event. This call will only support events that are to take place in 2007 and 2008. A maximum of approximately 1 mill. NOK will be available for such support in this call.

Eligible applicants are public and private Norwegian research institutions. For further specifications and guidelines for this type of proposals, please see "Arrangementsstøtte" (in Norwegian only).

Proposal guidelines and evaluation:

  • The application form and project description (a maximum of 10 pages, font Times New Roman 12 point, footnotes and references included) must be written in English
  • The GLOBVAC programme board will evaluate and ultimately decide, and at its discretion, which projects will receive funding and the amount for the allocations
