Evaluations of specific subjects and thematic areas facilitate a critical review of the Norwegian research system in an international perspective, and form the basis for specific recommendations on measures to encourage increased quality and efficiency in research.
The evaluations provide the Research Council with important background for its strategic research planning efforts and activities vis-à-vis public bodies.
The evaluations also serve as a tool for research organisations themselves in their ongoing efforts to refine their own strategic and scientific frameworks.
