The purpose of this call is to create a framework to encourage more international collaboration.

About the call for proposals

Under this call for proposals, funding is available for researchers from other countries to carry out a research stay at a Norwegian research organisation. This call has an open-ended submission deadline, i.e. grant applications may be submitted at any time during the year, and will be processed on an ongoing basis.

Research stays are to have a duration of minimum one month, and maximum 12 months.

This call for proposals applies across multiple activities under the Research Council. Please note that some activities may operate with special requirements and guidelines for this type of funding. Applicants are therefore advised to consult the relevant activity for information about any specific requirements and guidelines. For more information, see “Relevant thematic areas for this call” below.

The Norwegian-language call for proposals is the legally binding version.

Who is eligible to apply?

The call is open to approved Norwegian research organisations. Any exceptions to this will be described below in the text for the specific activity from which funding is being sought.

Funding under this call will only be provided for researchers from other countries who will be conducting a research stay in Norway.

Requirements for this application type

Please note that it is not possible to revise and resubmit grant applications multiple times for calls for proposals with open-ended submission deadlines. It is therefore important that your application is completely finished before you submit it.

General requirements

  • The name of the researcher for whom funding for a research stay in Norway is sought must be entered in the application form.
  • The grant application, including all attachments, may be submitted in Norwegian or English.
  • All attachments must be uploaded in PDF format.
  • The Norwegian research organisation must be listed as Project Owner in the application (Any exceptions to this will be stipulated in the description of the activity from which funding is being sought.).

Mandatory attachments

  • A project description providing scientific justification and a plan for the visiting researcher’s stay, using the designated template;
  • A CV for the visiting researcher for whom the funding is being sought, using the designated template;
  • A binding letter of commitment from an institution abroad and the Norwegian host institution.

Grant applications that do not satisfy the above requirements will be rejected.

Links to websites and documents, as well as other attachments than those specified above, will not be included in the application review process.

Assessment criteria

Applications submitted to this call for proposals will be assessed according to the criteria for administrative reviews.

Administrative procedures

Grant applications will be assessed by the Research Council administration, and funding will normally be awarded if the application has satisfied the formal requirements stipulated in this call for proposals. Applications must fulfil the following requirements:

  • The applicant/Project Owner must come from an eligible category of institution.
  • The grant application must lie within the scope/satisfy the objectives of this call.
  • The funding amount sought and the expenses to be covered must be in keeping with the framework of the call.
  • The budget must be formulated correctly to clearly indicate what the funding will cover.
  • The application form must be fully completed.
  • The required attachments must be included using the designated templates.
  • The project description must provide answers to the items set out in the text of the call.

All items in the project description template must be completed. Responses to each item should be as concrete and clear as possible.

The final decision regarding funding can be expected within one month after the application has been received by the Research Council.
