Portugal is a key partner for Norwegian research organisations and companies, especially in all areas connected to seas and ocean.
The Research Council has a long-standing cooperation agreement with its Portuguese counterpart, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) which is aimed at fostering cooperation and joint calls.
EEA Grants: Blue Growth
Research cooperation with Portugal will be supported through an EEA Grants programme for “Blue Growth”. The programme, which has a budget of EUR 44.7 million, also includes support for business development and education.
Responsibility for implementation of the programme, calls for proposals and projects lies with the Direção-Geral de Política do Mar (DGPM), the Portuguese directorate for marine policy.
The Blue Growth programme will be issuing a call for proposals for bilateral research projects with research organisations in Portugal and Norway in autumn 2019.
Research groups cooperating with companies in Portugal may also apply to calls for proposals in the Business Development component of the Blue Growth programme.
The programme organises its own events to promote new partnerships. Support for travel will be available and calls are published on the Blue Growth Programme website.
