EEA and Norway Grants: Romania

Research cooperation between Romania and Norway under the EEA and Norway Grants scheme has a budget of EUR 46.8 million.

The research programme is operated and administered by the Research Council’s Romanian counterpart, the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) in Romania.

Partners

Funding must be sought by research organisations in Romania. Projects are required to include at least one partner (research organisation) from Norway and/or Iceland.

Taking part in a project enables you to find valuable partners in Romania with expertise in the same area as you and your colleagues, and to establish or strengthen regional networks. We encourage Norwegian research organisations that are interested to register in our Partner Search Database and to contact research groups in Romania directly.

Research areas

Thematic areas of relevance for cooperation with Romania:

  • Energy
  • The environment
  • Health
  • Social sciences and the humanities, including gender research and research on social inclusion
  • ICT
  • Biotechnology
  • CCS

The research programme also seeks to strengthen inclusion and empowerment among the Roma population by promoting research issues related to their circumstances. This topic is to be addressed in 10 per cent of all the projects funded under the programme.

There is keen competition for funding from the research programmes financed by the EEA and Norway Grants scheme, and participation in projects under these programmes can strengthen your research organisation as an applicant for Horizon 2020 funding.

A long-term objective of the research programme is to increase the number of Romanian applications submitted under an EU framework programme.
