Portfolio boards

The Research Council has 15 portfolio boards. Each board is responsible for a portfolio of programmes and other activities within a thematic area or a discipline.

The portfolio boards normally have 10-12 members, and are charged with the following tasks:

  • helping to implement research and innovation policy within their area of focus
  • planning research and innovation activities
  • taking decisions on the allocation of research funding
  • working to ensure a successful outcome from investments
  • giving advice to the Research Council administration

The members of the portfolio boards are appointed for a period of four years. See here for an overview of the portfolio boards
