Changes to the grant application form

The next time you create a grant application for the Research Council of Norway you will see that it includes a number of new items. Start working on your application well before the submission deadline to identify all the information you will need to be able to fill in the form correctly.

Over the course of the winter and spring, the Research Council has introduced several updates to the grant application form to offer simpler navigation, provide users with a better overview and make it easier to retrieve more detailed information when this is needed.

Read about the changes introduced in December and March here:

The last of the three planned updates has now been completed. The most important changes this time involve information about partners and the fields for budgets, new fields for outcomes and impacts, data management plans and the classification of scientific disciplines (the latter in Norwegian only).

The application form has been revised and expanded to make it easier for applicants to provide the information that the Research Council needs. Information that has previously been included in attachments uploaded along with the grant application can now be entered directly into the application form. In calls for proposals where it is possible to grant support that is defined as state aid, applicants can now more directly provide the necessary clarifying information.

Start working on your grant proposal as early as possible

The new items appearing in the grant application form will vary in relation to the calls for proposals and application type. The updates may require applicants to provide a wider range of information when completing the application form. To ensure that the application process is successful, the Research Council offers the following pointers:

  • Take the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the requirements stipulated in the call for proposals, the general requirements and guidelines for the specific application type, and the Research Council’s general requirements for grant applications.
  • Keep in mind that completing the grant application form will take some time. Create a grant application at the earliest stage possible, and identify all the information you will need to fill in the form correctly.
  • While it is not possible to create a grant application form until 6 weeks before the submission deadline, the templates for mandatory attachments such as project descriptions are normally available before this time via the call for proposals.
  • We recommend that you submit your grant application by the day before the application deadline at the latest. You can still open, edit and re-submit your application up to the final deadline.
  • The grant application deadline is absolute and final. The system closes automatically and will not accept grant applications submitted after 13:00 on the day of the deadline.
