369 grant proposals submitted for the November application deadline

In its final funding round for 2017, the Research Council of Norway announced in excess of NOK 0.5 billion in funding. An overview of the total number of grant applications submitted in 2017 shows that the number is down slightly from 2016.

The decline in the number of applications submitted in 2017 compared with 2016 is largely due to the fact that fewer applicants have sought funding from the Research Council’s thematic programmes whereas more applications were submitted for independent projects. The FRIPRO funding scheme for independent projects is clearly the activity that is currently most in demand in the Research Council’s funding portfolio.

The number of applications submitted by the university and university college sector rose in 2017 due to a new high in the number of applications received from specialised university institutions and state university colleges. The predominant application type was Researcher Projects. The percentage of applications with women project managers remains relatively stable at just over one-third of the total.
