Overseas Research Grants and Visiting Researcher Grants for projects funded under VAM

Personal overseas research grant

General requirements for Personal overseas research grant

Requirements and criteria for this type of application:

Projects funded under the VAM programme are eligible to apply for Personal Overseas Research Grants. Priority will be given to post-doctoral and doctoral research fellows, but researchers may receive grants as well. These grants are part of the effort to strengthen Norwegian research groups in the field. Personal Overseas Research Grants will not be awarded for fieldwork or data collection abroad, which are considered to be operating expenses and must be covered by the funding allocated to the currently ongoing project.

Applications that do not satisfy the following requirements will not be processed:

  • The Research Council’s fixed rates for fellowship grants must be used when applying for a Personal Overseas Research Grant.
  • The Personal Overseas Research Grant being sought must be connected to a currently ongoing project under the VAM programme.
  • The research stay abroad must not require an extension of the fellowship period or the period of project funding.
  • The earliest permitted start-up date for a Personal Overseas Research Grant is four months from the date of submission of the application.
  • Funding may only be sought for specific grant candidates affiliated with a project funded under the VAM programme.
  • The grant candidate must be invited by an institution abroad, and the invitation must be attached to the grant application.
  • The grant candidate’s CV and relevant list of publications must be attached to the grant application.

  • A description of the scientific connection to and relevance/value added of the research stay abroad for the project.
