Amount of funding presumed available for this call for proposals:

The grants are awarded as additional funding to projects receiving funding under Research Council activities and programmes. Thus the scheme does not have its own budget.

Guidelines and important considerations relevant to all types of applications in this call for proposals:

The Norwegian-language call for proposals is the legally binding version.

Overseas research grants are available to doctoral fellowship-holders affiliated with a project that has received a pledge for full or partial funding from the Research Council for a period of minimum 24 months.

The scheme applies to projects that have been awarded funding under a call for proposals with a deadline after 1 January 2017 and whose Project Owner is a Norwegian institution.

The Project Owner is to submit the grant application:

  • after the individual has been appointed to the position of doctoral research fellow and concrete plans for the research stay abroad have been drawn up;
  • at least three months prior to the research stay. Any exceptions must be justified.

Grant applications must describe how the research stay abroad will promote outgoing mobility.

What does the grant cover and how is it disbursed?

  • Personal Overseas Research Grants are available to doctoral fellowship-holders for a stay of minimum three and maximum 12 months. The stay abroad may be divided into shorter segments if the researcher has children of school age or younger, with up to one round-trip ticket home per two complete months for the duration of the stay.
  • The grant will be disbursed in monthly increments based on fixed rates

Grant applications will be assessed by the Research Council administration, and funding will normally be awarded if the application has satisfied the formal requirements stipulated in this call for proposals.
