Deadline Announcement

Open-ended Personal Overseas Research Grants and extensions of fellowship periods for post-doctoral fellows funded by the Research Council Choose

A list with the project titles of all applications under processing will be published on the Research Council

The objective of the scheme is to increase the number of younger researchers who conduct a research stay abroad. International experience is an important brick in building a career as a researcher and improves the ability to succeed in national and international competitive arenas. Outgoing mobility will also help to strengthen the Norwegian research sector.

Who can apply:

Projects that have been awarded funding under a call for proposals with a deadline after 1 January 2017 and whose Project Owner is a Norwegian institution.

Overseas research grants are available to doctoral and post-doctoral fellowship-holders affiliated with a project that has received a pledge for full or partial funding from the Research Council for a period of minimum 24 months. The research stay abroad must have a duration of minimum three months and maximum 12 months.

Post-doctoral fellows that have been awarded a Personal Overseas Research Grant may also apply for an extension of the post-doctoral fellowship period in connection with a research stay abroad corresponding to the length of the stay (3–12 months). Applications for an extension of over six months will only be approved if the research stay abroad and the extension are included in the post-doctoral fellowship contract.

See the Research Council's definition and specification of the concept "research institution" and the list of approved research institutions.

This programme/activity normally accepts grant applications from:

Research institutions as defined by the Research Council (see link at right).

Overall budget:

The grants are awarded as additional funding to projects receiving funding under Research Council activities and programmes. Thus the scheme does not have its own budget.
