Personal Overseas Research Grant for Doctoral and Post-doctoral Fellows (UTENLANDSSTIPEND)

Deadline Announcement
Open-ended Personal Overseas Research Grants for doctoral fellows with funding from the Research Council Choose
Open-ended Personal Overseas Research Grants and extensions of fellowship periods for post-doctoral fellows with funding from the Research Council Choose

Messages:

A list with the project titles of all applications under processing will be published on the Research Council website.

Objectives:

The objective of the scheme is to increase the number of younger researchers who conduct a research stay abroad. International experience is important in building a career as a researcher and improves the ability to succeed in national and international competitive arenas. Outgoing mobility will also help to strengthen the Norwegian research sector.

Who can apply:

Projects that have been awarded funding under a call for proposals with a deadline after 1 January 2017 and whose Project Owner is a Norwegian research organisation.

Overseas research grants are available to doctoral and post-doctoral fellowship-holders that have received a pledge for full or partial funding from the Research Council for a period of minimum 24 months. The research stay abroad must have a duration of minimum three months and maximum 12 months.

Research stays for doctoral fellows must be concluded by at the latest six months before the end of the doctoral fellowship period.

For non-Norwegian research fellows, Personal Overseas Research Grants may be sought for visits to a research organisation in the research fellow’s home country if he or she has not studied or been employed there for more than 12 months during the past three years, and if this is warranted for reasons relating to equipment, facilities or expertise that is not available in Norway.

Overseas Research Grants may not be used to spend parts of the fellowship period on Svalbard.

Post-doctoral fellows that have been awarded a Personal Overseas Research Grant may also apply for an extension of the post-doctoral fellowship period in connection with a research stay abroad corresponding to the length of the stay (3–12 months). Applications for an extension of over six months will only be approved if the research stay abroad and the extension are included in the post-doctoral fellowship contract.
