Objectives:

Synchrotron and neutron beamlines are key tools for studying the characteristics of soft condensed materials at the atomic scale. Neutron and synchrotron facilities inherently comprise generic methodological platforms that can be applied within a wide range of scientific disciplines. It is therefore in Norway’s national interest to establish, maintain and further develop scientific expertise and methodology development for the application of neutron and synchrotron beamlines.

The primary objective of the SYNKNOYT programme is twofold: 1) to encourage research groups to take advantage of the scientific opportunities offered by Norway’s membership of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and its partnership in the Swiss-Norwegian Beam Lines (SNBL), and 2) to boost national capacity and methodological expertise in neutron-based research via Norway’s membership of the European Spallation Source (ESS).

At present, these projects have received funding from the SYNKNOYT-programme. The overview provides access to summaries and other key information on all the projects under the programme. (The overview may contain information in Norwegian.)

 

This programme/activity normally accepts grant applications from:

Universities, university colleges and independent research institutes.

The programme has an annual budget of NOK 15 million.
