Guidelines and important considerations relevant to all types of applications in this call for proposals:

About Innovation Projects for the Industrial Sector:

An Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector involves research activities that are necessary for the participating companies to succeed in implementing an innovation (value-creating renewal). The project must develop new knowledge through industrial research and/or experimental development. Projects may not include analyses of markets or competitors. Funding from the Research Council is intended to trigger efforts, actions and/or ripple effects that would not be achieved if the support had not been granted.

The submission of project outlines is an open offer of advice and guidance for companies in advance of the submission deadline for complete applications. The Research Council encourages all companies planning to apply for funding for an Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector to take advantage of this opportunity, particularly companies that have not sought funding previously. The purpose of submitting a project outline is:

  • To provide advice to companies regarding which calls for proposals under Research Council programmes, or other funding schemes, may be relevant for their project;
  • To provide guidance to companies on what an Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector is and what it requires;
  • To prevent companies from putting too much work into complete applications that are clearly not competitive.

The submission of project outlines is optional and is not a form of pre-qualification. Complete applications for Innovation Projects for the Industrial Sector must be submitted through the ordinary channels by the deadline of 11 October 2017. The final applications will be assessed completely independently of any feedback on submitted outlines.

Before starting to prepare an outline, companies considering applying for an Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector should take time to familiarise themselves with the text of the call issued by the programme they see as most relevant. Collectively, the planned calls for proposals will extend across the entire range of the Norwegian business sector:

Procedure for submission of project outlines

The Research Council will accept project outlines for assessment during the period from 7 May 2018 to 29 August 2018. Companies are encouraged to submit their outlines at the earliest possible date.

Project outlines must be created in and submitted via the Research Council's eSøknad online application system at the latest by 29 August 2018, 13:00 CET. The designated project outline  template DOCX - 20 KB must be used

Project outlines will be assessed administratively by programme officers at the Research Council, and in some cases in cooperation with programme officers at Innovation Norway. Outlines will be assessed on an ongoing basis, and feedback will be given as soon as possible. Please note that this may take longer during the holiday period in July, but feedback will be given on all outlines at the latest by 12 September 2018.

Feedback will focus on how the well the project satisfies the key requirements and guidelines for the application type Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector as well as those set out in the call issued by the programme for which the project is deemed most relevant. Feedback will not comprise a scientific assessment of the research content of the proposed project.
