Objectives:

The EU framework programme Horizon 2020 is the largest research and innovation programme globally with a budget of appr. 70 billion euro for the years 2014-2020. Norway participates fully as an associated country. Horizon 2020 is designed along three main pillars:

  • Excellent science with the European Research Council (ERC), The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) and support for Research Infrastructures.
  • Industrial Leadership. Here you find key enabling technologies such as ICT, nano-, bio- and space technologies, production processes and advanced materials, financial instruments for risk capital, and innovation in SMEs.
  • Societal Challenges is the third pillar of H2020, where support for research within seven big societal challenges is found.

Objectives for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions ensure excellent and innovative research training as well as attractive career and knowledge-exchange opportunities through cross-border and cross-sector mobility of researchers, to better prepare them for current and future societal challenges.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions are open to all domains of research and innovation addressed under the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, from basic research up to market take-up and innovation services. Research and innovation fields as well as sectors are chosen freely by the applicants in a fully bottom-up manner.
