The budget for 2017 is NOK 10 million.

Guidelines and important considerations relevant to all types of applications in this call for proposals:

Who is eligible?

Principal Investigators (PI) who submitted a proposal for a Starting Grant, Consolidator Grant or Advanced Grant and advanced to stage two of the submission procedure, but who were not awarded a grant from the European Research Council (ERC) are eligible to seek support. The applicant institution must be a Norwegian institution or company.

Prerequisites

Applicants must submit a new grant proposal to the ERC in response to the first or second funding announcement for the relevant grant type issued after the applicant has been notified of the outcome of the evaluation. Applicants who submitted the first proposal in response to a Starting Grant call and no longer satisfy the requirements for the time period that have passed since completion of a doctorate , may submit the new proposal in response to a Consolidator Grant call . The same applies to the transition from a Consolidator Grant to an Advanced Grant.

Application submission deadline

This call has an open-ended deadline and applicants are encouraged to apply for funding as soon as possible after they have been notified of the outcome of the ERC evaluation.

Amount of funding

Up to NOK 500 000 in total.

What can the funding cover?

Funding is to be used to improve the basis for a new grant proposal to ERC. Funding may only be used to cover costs incurred during the period from the date the Research Council received the application to the date of submission of the new grant proposal to the ERC. The following costs may be covered:

  • Payroll costs for the PI in connection with the preparation of an improved ERC grant proposal.
  • Direct costs related to experiments, data collection and use of infrastructure intended to generate results that will strengthen the grant proposal.
  • Travel and conference-related expenses for the PI, including costs related to a research stay at another institution, when this will help to strengthen the grant proposal.

De minimis aid

Support from the Research Council will be awarded to companies as de minimis aid. This means that the company may receive a maximum of EUR 200 000 in public funding over a period of three fiscal years. Read more about the rules for de minimis aid here PDF - 61 KB .

Reporting and disbursement of funding

Support is contingent on the submission of a new grant proposal to the ERC and will be disbursed in arrears. Once the ERC grant proposal has been submitted, applicants must send a report and information on the project accounts to the Research Council. All reports are to be submitted online. The report must include the following attachments:

  1. Confirmation of submission of the ERC grant proposal.
  2. The “Project account report” form must be completed and signed to document costs incurred during the project period. Time sheets and other documentation do not need to be submitted, but must be provided upon request.
