The Research Council of Norway and the University of Bergen will arrange a writing course for researchers from Norwegian institutions who plan to apply for an ERC Advanced Grant to the August 30th 2018.

The writing course will be held by Enspire. For researchers from the University of Bergen it will be possible to request an individual feedback session with the Enspire (see registration). For other researchers from other institution it will be possible to have individual talk with the representative from The Research Council and national contact point (NCP) for ERC.

ERC is the most prestigious grant in the H2020 Programme, and is different than most other research funding sources. For this reason, it requires an ‘out-of-the-box’ approach.  ERC supports ambitious ideas in high-risk, high-gain research projects. When supporting scientists applying for ERC grants, it is important to help them think big, shift their writing style, and ensure their idea is conveyed in the most suitable way.

This training presents the ERC AdG category to senior researchers that are interested in applying to ERC funding. The workshop will provide the researchers with information and tools to apply to an ERC grant, and focus on AdG-related issues in ERC. The topics include:

  • ERC terminology
  • ERC AdG basics
  • AdG technical rules & regulations
  • AdG PI Profile
  • Application & submission processes
  • What constitutes Scientific Excellence?
  • The unique nature of ERC: High risk, high gain, non-incremental work Hypothesis for ERC - how to do it right
  • How to write a convincing methodology
  • Ethical issues
  • Panel selection
  • The panel-application reciprocal effect
  • The evaluation process
