Guidelines for Applications for Publication Grants - the Humanities and Social Sciences

General

The Research Council of Norway seeks to promote the dissemination of research in the humanities and social sciences to research and specialist communities both nationally and internationally. To achieve this objective, the Research Council may award funding for the publication of scientific results produced by humanities and social science research when market conditions make this otherwise difficult.

Grants may be sought to cover expenses related to:

  1. Production of scientific books for publication by Norwegian and international publishing houses.
  2. Production of national scientific journals (including lump sum for transition to Open Access).
  3. Sample translations, translation and copyediting of manuscripts for international publication.

Please note that scientific yearbooks will be treated either as scientific journals or books depending on the editorial practice of the yearbook in question.

Grant applications must be submitted using the Research Council’s electronic application system.

Assessment of applications

A six-member Publications Committee is appointed to assess the applications and take decisions on grant allocations within the established budgetary framework.
