From transmission of tradition to global learning: African Islamic education, c. 1800-2000

Researchers from the University of Cape Town and the University of Bergen will collaborate on a historically-grounded project focusing on the growth and transformation of a widespread form of basic traditional education in parts of Africa with large Musli m populations. A central concern of this project is how these institutions have changed and how they are been used in response to a variety of colonial, post-colonial and globalizing pressures.
