EXPO 2010: Norway to promote research
Increasing the visibility of Norwegian research will be an important component of Norway's participation in EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. The Research Council is organising a number of specialised seminars
“China is steadily gaining in stature as a research nation,” says Kari Kveseth, Director of the International Unit at the Research Council. “In terms of scientific development the centre of gravity is moving from the US and Europe to some of the most successful universities and research institutes in China,” she asserts.
“EXPO 2010 in Shanghai presents the Norwegian research community with a unique opportunity to make new contacts in one of our most important partner countries,” Kveseth points out.
Norway, Powered by Nature
The Research Council will be working closely with the organising team at Innovation Norway to ensure that research is an integral part of Norway’s profile at EXPO 2010. Norway’s theme for EXPO 2010 is “Norway, Powered by Nature.”
“EXPO will provide an excellent arena for the Research Council to present both its new programme for cooperation with China within the fields of research and innovation and other relevant programmes and activities,” notes Kveseth.
Specialised seminars for Chinese research groups
During the EXPO period the Research Council will organise five seminars with the following themes:
- Clean energy (around 20 May)
- Climate technology (around 20 May)
- Climate research (beginning of June)
- Environmental research (beginning of June)
- Welfare research (around 20 September)
The relevant thematic programmes at the Research Council will be responsible for organising the seminars, in close cooperation with key research groups and representatives from Norwegian trade and industry. The target groups are the Chinese authorities and central actors within research, innovation and trade and industry.
The Research Council will also promote research at other EXPO events organised by the Norwegian authorities and trade and industry.
