The noise can be so powerful that it can actually cause metal fatigue in piping attachments. Now the researchers are taking a fundamental approach to deal with the problem.

Epcon Offshore has developed a commercial system for cleaning produced water from oil platforms in collaboration with operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and with the assistance of Aquateam. Development efforts have resulted in the new Epcon CFU (Compact Flotation Unit) system, which has already been sold to several oil companies.

The technology enterprise AGR Subsea AS recently won a prestigious drilling contract with BP in the Caspian Sea, thanks to a unique technology that collects drilling fluid and cuttings on the seabed and pumps the mixture back to the platform. So far, the technology has only been used for top hole drilling, but AGR is developing a solution that can be used further down in the bore well.
