Eight more leading research groups in Norway have been designated as Centres of Excellence (CoE). The new CoEs will receive NOK 800 million over a ten-year period to conduct research of a high international standard.

Four of the centres scored slightly lower, primarily because they could be better organised. "The CoE scheme has definitely met our expectations," states Arvid Hallén, director general of the Research Council.

This is an important measure to facilitate alliances between innovative enterprises and prominent research groups.
