RiS Database

The Research in Svalbard (RiS) database is a repository of information about research in Svalbard - planned, ongoing, and completed.

The database is only as valuable as its contents. We need your help to keep it accurate and updated. By registering your project, you will make it possible for others to see what is going on in the Svalbard Archipelago. Ideally, this will prevent duplication of effort and foster collaboration.

Go to project and dataset registration

The database also provides information about projects that have already been completed. Although the datasets themselves are not available in RiS, you can search for specific topics and find out how to contact the person or institute that "owns" the data.

Go to the database search function

In cooperation with the Norwegian Polar Institute, SSF has launched a service that allows you to view all the projects in the RiS database on Google Earth.

Open the RiS Projects Map with Google Earth, and the projects will appear as dots. Clicking on the dots will open an information balloon with a brief project summary and a link to the full project description.

This function requires that you have a recent version of Google Earth. If you don't, you can download Google Earth free of charge.

The folder "ssfprojects" will open under "Temporary places". If you move the folder to "My places", Google Earth will remember the link in the future.
