The Leiv Eiriksson mobility programme

The Research Council of Norway offers mobility grants to research fellows and academic personnel for research stays in the USA, Canada or Norway.

Objectives:

The Leiv Eiriksson mobility programme aims to contribute to the long-term escalation of R&D collaboration with the USA and Canada by allowing more Norwegian researchers and research recruits to spend time in the U.S. or Canada, and more researchers and research recruits from the U.S. and Canada to spend time in Norway.

This programme normally accepts grant applications from:

Academic personnel, including doctoral and post-doctoral research fellows, affiliated with research-performing institutions/companies in Norway, the US or Canada.

Subject fields or thematic priorities:

This grant scheme is open to all academic areas of study.

What type of funding can be sought:

Grants will cover documented costs of settling in and associated extra costs incurred in connection with a research visit in Norway based on fixed monthly amounts.

Application deadline and procedure:

The closing date for submission of applications is in the autumn (September/October) for research stays commencing in the following calendar year. Applications must be submitted via the eSøknad electronic submission service. Please see under the green 'Funding' tab on our Home page.

The Leiv Eiriksson mobility programme provides funding for the reciprocal exchange of researchers and research recruits between Norway and North America. The programme follows up the "Strategy for Norway's Scientific and Technological Cooperation with North America" (2004). From 2005 - 2009, a total of 202 researchers conducted research stays abroad with funding from this programme.
