The University of Oslo will celebrate ten years of academic partnership between South Africa and Norway later this year. A series of ?happenings?, known as the Oslo Celebrations, will take place in Oslo over three months as of August this year. The principal academic event is a scientific conference planned for 1 ? 2 November 2007. In addition to a few identified key-note speakers, all researchers who received grants during the first phase of the research co-operation programme will be invited to present their principal results from their respective projects. Other interested academics, including the applicants to the latest call for proposals, will also be welcome to attend. More details on the conference and the Oslo Celebratons as a whole will be posted on these pages as time goes by.

The Secretariat had hoped to make a call for proposals in mid-March with application deadline set at June 8th this year. Unfortunately, it is now clear that this will not be possible, as the Business Plan (agreement) between South African and Norwegian authorities, and which is the basis for the whole co-operation programme, has yet to be signed.
