The programme has as overall goal to enhance knowledge about Latin America in Norway by supporting high-quality research. Its thematic focus includes social sciences, development research, research on environment and climate, on culture and society, on energy and on natural resources.
The Research Council received a total of 71 applications for the two calls, divided between 51 applications for researcher projects, 5 for personal postdoc fellowships and 15 for seminars and workshops. The November applications have been assessed by several expert panels and individual experts, as input for the final decision by the Latin America programme board.
At the call on Support for conferences and workshops on Latin America, with deadline 13.2.2013, 15 proposals have applied for nearly NOK 2 mill.
A total of 56 applications were submitted to the call for proposals at the deadline on 28 November 2012. The applications are both for Researcher projects (51) and Personal post doctor projects (5).

The new call, with deadline 28.11.2012, is now active.
The call is open for applications concerning all countries in Latin America, with special priority assigned to proposals dealing with Brazil.
The Research Council has named a new board for the next period of the Latin America programme.
At the constituting meeting planned for October 5, 2012 the board will discuss the text for the next call, to be announced shortly afterwards, with a deadline of November 28.
