Graduate Research Opportunity Worldwide (GROW)
The Research Council of Norway offers grants for research stays in Norway for NSF Graduate Research Fellows.
Graduate Research Opportunity Worldwide (GROW) objective is to allow Graduate Research Fellows to broaden their international experience through exposure to leading international institutions.

This programme is open to all National Science Foundation's supported fields (based on required disciplines for fellowship funding).
What type of funding can be sought:
Funding is granted for research visits lasting from 3 - 12 months in Norway based on fixed monthly amounts, single/family rate. For current rates, see Guidelines.
Family rate will only be granted if clearly requested in the application. It is not possible to request the family rate after the Letter of Approval has been issued.
The family rate can be applied for provided that the family members will be residing together with the visiting researcher throughout the entire fellowship period. A family is defined as the visiting researcher accompanied by a spouse, common-law partner or registered partner and any children. A common-law partner is a person with whom the individual has lived in a marriage-like relationship or shared a common address for the past two years.

The program is open to all current NSF Graduate Research Fellows who will be active fellows (on tenure or reserve) during the period of time proposed for the research activity in Norway.
Potential host institutions in Norway include Norwegian Centres of Excellence and Centres for Research-based Innovation.
Application deadline and procedure:
Fellows who wish to pursue a research project at a specific Norwegian institution must secure a letter of endorsement from his/her faculty advisor as well as a letter of collaboration from the Norwegian host scientist.
Supplemental funding requests for this Graduate Research Opportunity Worldwide (GROW) will be subject to full merit review by the NSF. Final selection of participants will depend om agreement between NSF and the Research Council of Norway.

Through a collaboration with the National Science Foundation's Office of International Science and Engineering and the Research Council of Norway, research stays of between three and twelve months for NSF GROW fellows to work with counterparts at Norwegian research institutions will be supported on a competitive basis. This programme runs from 2009 to 2016.
