Mål for programmet:

Nanotechnology and new materials, nanoscience and integration (NANOMAT) seeks to promote Norway as a world leader in selected areas relating to nanoscience, nanotechnology and new materials. The programme paves the way for new knowledge-based, research-intensive industry and the sustainable renewable of Norwegian industry. Key callenges under the programme are:

  • Implementation of a new work programme for 2007-2016, thus ensuring targeted follow-up of the research policy document "Nasjonal strategi for nanovitenskap og nanoteknologi" (National strategy for nanoscience and nanotechnology) and the foresight stydy "Advanced Materials Norway 2020";

  • Honing expertise within the priority thematic areas of energy and the environment, ICT including microsystems, health and biotechnology, oceans and food;

  • Focus on the most important areas of expertise: new/functional and nanostructured materials, bionanoscience and bionanotechnology, as well as ethical, legal and social factors including health, the environment, safety and risk;

  • Establishment and operation of a national network with two national infrastructure centres, as well as several tools platforms based on local expertise and application centres for the integration of new knowledge.

The overall budget for the programme period 2007 - 2011 has been preliminarily set at over NOK 300 million.
