Mål for programmet:

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) was established in 1964 with the aim to promote biosciences in Europe. The organization is bicameral: its actions are funded by contributions from 24 Member States, which together form the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBO). The EMBO itself is composed of more than 1100 scientists

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) was established in 1974 and is supported by seventeen countries including nearly all of Western Europe and Israel. EMBL consists of five facilities: the main Laboratory in Heidelberg (Germany ), Outstations in Hamburg (Germany ), Grenoble (France ) and Hinxton (U. K.), and an external Research Programme in Monterotondo (Italy ).

EMBL also have close collaborations with DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron) in Hamburg, and ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) and ILL (Institut Laue-Langevin) in Grenoble.

Sars International centre for marine molecular biology, in Bergen, is a partner of EMBL.

EMBL og EMBO har en rekke stipendordninger og arrangerer seminarer og kurs. Søknader sendes direkte til EMBL og EMBO, innen angitte frister (se websidene for utlysninger).

Finansiering fra Forskningsrådet: Søknader om finansiering av forskningsopphold ved EMBL kan sendes til relevante programmer innen biologi, biomedisin og bioteknologi ved de generelle utlysningene for disse. (Kontakt oss for mer informasjon.)

EMBL har egne Ph.D.-og gjesteforskerprogram og arrangerer seminarer og kurs. EMBL og EMBO har også egne stipendordninger. EMBL har hovedlaboratorium i Heidelberg og utestasjoner i Hamburg, Grenoble og Hinxton/Cambridge . Utestasjonene er i tillegg fasilitetssentra for gjesteforskere. EMBL har nært samarbeid med DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron) i Hamburg og ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) og ILL (Institut Laue-Langevin) i Grenoble.

Det er ikke eget budsjett. Aktivitetene finansieres gjennom programmer og virkemidler innen biologi og bioteknologi.
