Budget

Each year, the Research Council submits a budget proposal to the ministries. The Research Council's budget is specified as part of the National Budget. Once the National Budget has been formally adopted, the Research Council's budget for the subsequent year can be presented.

The 2011 research budget

The national budget for 2011 provides an overall allocation of NOK 23 billion for research and development (R&D) activities in Norway. Thus the total R&D budget is NOK 550 million higher than for 2010.

Budget input 2012

The Research Council has proposed an increase of NOK 1.2 billion for research and four priority areas in the 2012 national budget.

The Fund for Research and Innovation

The Norwegian Fund for Research and Innovation was established to fund basic research with an emphasis on quality-promoting measures. The fund first began to yield returns in 2001, and has since played a crucial role in supporting Norwegian research.
