Policy platform
The Research Council provides key research-policy input to the Government and is the chief allocating agency for research funding in Norway. The activities and strategic efforts of the Research Council are primarily based on the guidelines established for Norwegian research policy and the principles established for research policy in the EU.
Norwegian research policy
Report No. 20 to the Norwegian national assembly, Commitment to Research, was issued in 2005 in the summer of that same year. In the autumn of 2005, the current Government provided further specification of some of the objectives and priorities.
EU research policy - implications for Norway
Norway has been active in the EU Framework Programmes for research since 1994. The present programme, with a total budget of Euro 50 billion, spans the 2007-2014 period.
