Nordic Centres of Excellence (NCoE)
Internationally competitive research is only possible through long-term work and support. One way of raising the quality, efficiency and visibility of Nordic research is the creation of Nordic Centres of Excellence (NCoE).
An NCoE is a network of excellent Nordic groups of scientists, collaborating within a defined field of research. Important objectives of the Nordic Centre of Excellence Programmes are to create added value through Nordic collaboration and pooling of resources and to further increase the scientific quality of Nordic research.
Nordic Centres of Excellence are selected for five-year periods based on open competition. The most important selection criterion is scientific excellence according to international standards. The programmes are funded by the Nordic research councils, Nordic Council of Ministers and NordForsk. This Nordic support supplements the basic funding of the Centres, which comes from national sources.
