Revisions to the R&D contract documents 2011

Only a few revisions have been made to the contract documents, and the procedures for sending out and returning contract documents remain the same as in 2010. The most important changes in the 2011 documents are as follows:

The document General Terms of Contract has been renamed General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects
• This has been done to make it clear that the terms and conditions apply to all R&D projects funded under the Research Council.
• Starting in 2011, the general terms and conditions in force at the time of the signing of a contract will apply for the duration of the project period, unless otherwise agreed. Up to now, the most recent version of the terms and conditions has been made applicable to ongoing projects. (Text relating to this has been deleted under Article 3 of the R&D Project Agreement Document and Section 14 of the General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects)
 
Revised text in the R&D Project Agreement Document regarding storage of research-generated data by the Norwegian Social Science Data Services and confidential treatment (under Article 8, applies only to the relevant projects).

Key concepts:
• The definition of the term actual income has been expanded on a par with actual costs
• The term collaborative project has been reinstated to designate projects involving cooperation with one or more partners.

A paragraph under Section 2 of the General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects pertaining to a specific requirement has been deleted because the need to obtain approval from the Regional Committee for Medical Research Ethics if the project involves human trials has been incorporated into the statutory framework.

Publication of project results
Under Section 8 of the General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects, the following paragraph has been added:

• The Research Council may publish results that are reported in connection with the progress and final reports unless the information has been designated as confidential or is exempted from public disclosure on some other grounds.
The updated R&D Project Agreement Document and General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects that apply from 1 January 2011 may be accessed under Contracts.
