Knowledge-building Projects with User Involvement (KMB) are designed to foster the development of research groups that will enhance the international competitiveness of Norwegian trade and industry.
Who is eligible to apply for funding for knowledge-building projects?
Norwegian research institutions (universities, university colleges, independent research institutes and other institutions at which research constitutes an important activity) may apply for funding for knowledge-building projects in binding cooperation with one or more players in Norwegian trade and industry.
When is the application deadline?
The Research Council has formal deadlines during the year. The frequency of funding announcements will vary.

How much funding may be sought?
Funding from the Research Council for knowledge-building projects is limited to 80 % of the approved project costs. Only the costs incurred by the research institutions, not the companies, may be included in the project budget.
What is the average duration of a project?
Knowledge-building projects normally have a time frame of four to five years.
