Research cooperation with India

Norway and India signed a bilateral agreement on research and technology in November 2006 as well as a similar cooperation agreement on education in June 2008.

Norway is especially interested in collaboration on activities related to the natural sciences and technology.

Programmes

The Research Council has established the Norwegian Programme for Research Cooperation with India (INDNOR) to expand Indian-Norwegian research cooperation. The programme covers the areas of international politics, climate and the environment, clean energy and societal development. The programme has issued its first funding announcement with a June 2010 application deadline.

The Programme on Global Health and Vaccination Research (GLOBVAC) also strongly encourages cooperation between Indian and Norwegian researchers.

The Norway – Global Partner Programme (NORGLOBAL) encourages Norwegian institutions to integrate Indian partners into relevant projects. Similar cooperation is also encouraged under the Programme on Norwegian Environmental Research towards 2015 (MILJO2015) as well as the Programme on Climate Change and Impacts in Norway (NORKLIMA).

Mobility grants

Highly qualified Ph.D. students and younger researchers from India may apply for grants to conduct research in Norway under the Research Council’s YGGDRASIL mobility programme.
