The ROMFORSKNING programme is designed to support Norwegian space-related activities under the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Incoherent Scatter (EISCAT) Scientific Association and the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) Scientific Association. The programme is intended to enhance and further develop basic research in the context of Norway’s membership of these organisations. The primary objective of the programme is to generate essential basic knowledge about outer space by increasing understanding of fundamental physical processes, and by developing the necessary technological tools. Research activities under the programme also encompass near space, i.e. interactions between cosmic radiation, processes on the sun, solar wind and the Earth’s upper atmosphere, as well as basic research on Earth observation.
Universities, university colleges and independent research institutes.
The programme has an annual budget of NOK 23,3 million. NOK 3 million of this budget is earmarked for Earth observation projects.
