The Foundation for Research Levy on Agricultural Products was established pursuant to an act of legislation in order to ensure the economic basis for research related to agricultural products that will be used as, or in the production of, food and stimulants. The Foundation’s funds come from research duties levied on Norwegian-produced and imported agricultural products.
The Agricultural Agreement Research Fund is intended to help meet the needs of the parties to the agreement (the State through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Norwegian Farmers’ Union, and the Norwegian Farmers’ and Smallholders’ Union) for R&D primarily targeted toward applied knowledge.

This implies a broad approach to food and agricultural policy. In addition to R&D along the entire value chain, the approach will also include agriculture-related issues associated with financing, policy, society, living conditions, international conditions, the environment, use of grazing land, etc.

The Foundation for Research Levy on Agricultural Products has a budget for 2012 of NOK 129 million. The budget for 2013 will be determined at the end of 2012. The funds are used to provide funding for strategic programmes carried out at Nofima AS as well as for research projects competing for funding through open calls for proposals.
The Agricultural Agreement has NOK 48 million available in research funds for 2012. The budget for 2013 will be determined as part of the national agricultural negotiations in 2012.
